Here’s What Happened During My Last Promotion

Last November I gave the Kindle Free Book promotion a whirl for three days and I reached No. 1 of the Top 100 free books in Literary Fiction. The Pursuit of Cool stayed No. 1 all three days. My deep and sincere apologies to Victor Hugo, Charles Dickens and Charlotte Bronte (I’m not worthy!). I gave away 4,235 books during the promotion. Yes, I got zero in royalties… zip, but putting my novel in the hands of 4,235 readers is a huge thrill.

Writing to me is all about people reading the story — it closes the circle! I put all this time and energy into the writing and it releases during the reading. I love the idea that at any moment, unknown to me, a reader, perhaps in another part of the world, is reading my story and experiencing the characters.

Also, I got a nice bounce in the sales rankings when I the promotion ended, and a ripple in word of mouth.
